Harbor Police investigating truck crash into San Diego Bay off Harbor Island

Harbor Police patrol car Photo courtesy of OnScene TV On April at p m the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department responded to reports of a conveyance in the water off the southern edge of Harbor Island Bystanders stated a pickup truck drove south down Harbor Island Drive at a high rate of speed proceeded through two intersections and entered San Diego Bay Harbor Police activated an emergency response for prospective lifesaving measures and were on scene in under three minutes Officers unveiled that one adult female had exited the truck and had been pulled to shore by Good Samaritans She was unconscious but breathing when police arrived Medics transported her to a local hospital for healing The extent of her condition is unknown At p m members of the Harbor Police Dive Club San Diego Fire Department and San Diego Lifeguards entered the water to locate the submerged conveyance and search for prospective additional subjects Divers located the truck and detected an unresponsive adult male and an unresponsive adult female trapped inside Both subjects were recovered and lifesaving measures were initiated Medics transported both individuals to local hospitals At p m the female was pronounced deceased by health staff The extent of the male s injuries is unknown Due to the critical condition of all three individuals no statements were provided to officers during the initial lifesaving efforts The cause of the crash is still under proceeding inquiry by the Harbor Police Traffic Band The bicycle has been removed from the bay and there is no longer any impact to traffic on the water or on Harbor Island Anyone who has information about this episode is encouraged to call the Harbor Police non-emergency line at
